Fayval Williams Steps Up as Finance Minister

Fayval Williams is stepping into big shoes as Jamaica’s new Minister of Finance, following Dr Nigel Clarke’s departure.

Dr Clarke officially departed the island last week to take up his new role as Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced Fayval Williams as his replacement on Wednesday.

Speaking on Taking Stock, Business Writer David Rose said the incoming Finance Minister will have a huge role to fill while trying to make her own stamp.

“Dr. Clarke has built up a decent amount of public trust over the years. You’ve gone several years now hearing no new taxes and they’ve still managed to bring inflow into the Government’s coffers but not to the detriment of the ordinary citizen,” he said.

Williams will now take the reins to continue these stable policies and keep the economy on track.

“A strong finance minister is crucial to stability of the country’s operations and overall confidence in the country,” Rose said.

Speaking before the official announcement was made, Kalilah Reynolds said, “Fayval has my vote. I think she has the experience and the know-how. She might not be as exciting as Dr Clarke, but remember even Dr. Clarke had to grow into that.
