MDLink wants to revolutionise healthcare in Jamaica
Dr Che Bowen says his experience working in the Jamaican and British Virgin Islands’ healthcare systems drove his desire to create MDLink, an online medical services company.
MDLink is an all-in-one medical services platform that connects patients to certified doctors, who conduct visits online and prescribe medication.
“We have video calls, audio calls or text messages and you’re able to get healthcare online. It doesn’t stop there. You can see a doctor online speak with them, and get feedback on your medical conditions of course specific medical conditions that can be treated online and in turn
you would receive a prescription,” Dr Bowen explained on Taking Stock with Kalilah Reyolds.
“This prescription is sent directly to your pharmacy,” he added.
MDLink acquired Fleet Diagnostic Laboratory in 2022, which allows the company to offer more services to customers.
“If you need lab testing you can also get that online on the platform and again the lab request is sent directly to the lab,” he added.
With over 300 doctors already on the platform, Dr Bowen said he has plans to expand the MDLink network to the rest of the Caribbean region and Latin America.
Dequity Partnership
To accomplish the company’s audacious goals, MDLink has secured funding from Dequity Capital.
Dequity which is headed by former Dolla Financial boss, Kadeen Mairs took a 25 per cent stake in MDLink. MDLink is the third medical services company in Dequity’s portfolio.
The company already has two hospitals under its umbrella.
“What we wanted to do was create a full ecosystem for healthare,” Mair explained.
“Accessing physical structures, like a traditional hospital, sometimes can be challenging especially in a rural area if you’re far away. When we did our research we realized that there are
common illnesses that can be treated online and that opened our eyes in terms of telemedicine and the solution that it can provide when you collaborate traditional healthcare, a physical structure, with digital,” he added.
Mairs said that the two companies plan to work together to expand MDLink’s offerings and bring the company’s services to more countries in the region.
