Four Ways to Avoid Bank Fees at NCB

Here are four ways to avoid fees at NCB.

You’ve probably noticed that many banks have been raising their fees lately.  As much as we hate it, banks do have to charge to offset costs like servicing ABMs and paying security.

But if you’re an NCB customer, here are some ways to avoid fees or pay as little as possible.

ONE – make sure you choose the right type of account because this affects the fees.

Savings accounts like ‘Quick Save or Regular Save’ are ideal if you don’t plan to make frequent withdrawals because it’s for saving!  If you’re trying to save, think of the withdrawal fee as a penalty for breaking your goal.

But if you need an everyday account to pay bills and buy groceries, choose  NCB’s On the Go account.  This gives you four free withdrawals each month.  So you can go to the ABM once a week FREE and take out the money you need for the week.

TWO – avoid fees by only using NCB ABMs.  If you’re a Gold Club member or have a QuickSave account, using an NCB ABM is FREE. You get two free ABM transactions a month with a regular savings account, and four free with a transaction account.

NCB also has the most ABMs across the country, so it’s easier to avoid fees for using another bank’s machine.

THREE – Plan out your transactions beforehand, especially if you’re sending money from NCB to another bank. RTGS or  Real-Time Gross Settlement is much faster and the money reaches the other person’s account within one to two hours but it’s also more expensive.  If you plan ahead, you can save money by choosing ACH transactions instead. It’s significantly cheaper but takes a few hours to settle.

FOUR – Ask the person you’re sending money to if they have an NCB account.  NCB to NCB transfers are free when you do them online or through the app.

So, what’s your favourite way to avoid fees?  And if you know any others, let me know in the comments.
