19 Countries Request to Join BRICS!
NINETEEN more countries have requested to join BRICS! Is Jamaica one of them?
I’m Kalilah Reynolds, financial journalist and educator based in Jamaica.
This is a MASSIVE update! We were literally just talking about BRICS’s push to become the new global power.
For those of you who may not have seen the first video- BRICS stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
They are 5 of the fastest-growing economies in the world and some economists have suggested that will dominate the global economy by 2050. They are considering creating their own global reserve currency to rival the US dollar.
Watch the previous video for more information on that.
BRICS could be the biggest threat to the G7 we’ve seen in a while and it looks like other countries want to hitch their train to this wagon.
Bloomberg News is reporting that countries such as Algeria, Egypt and Indonesia have requested to become a part of the economic bloc.
The full list of countries hasn’t been revealed but other news outlets have also indicated that Saudi Arabia, Argentina and the UAE (you know, where Dubai is) are among the countries that have requested to join.
FYI, I haven’t seen Jamaica on the list, if you were wondering.
The five BRICS nations are scheduled to have their annual summit in June, where it’s expected that they will discuss and decide which countries to allow into the group.
The last nation that the group accepted was South Africa in 2010- before it was just BRIC. So, they are pretty picky when it comes to accepting new members. But this will definitely be one to keep our eye on.
What do you guys think? Things are moving fast now. Does this change your opinion of BRICS? Why or why not? Let me know in the comments.
